Holiday treats to start the season! (10.16.13)

HOLIDAY FAVORITES!

Louisiana Rice Dressing – Dr. Schulman

 

Ingredients:
1/2 lb ground beef                                  1 tsp garlic powder
1 C bell pepper, chopped                     1/4 C chopped jalapenos (optional)
1 can cream of mushroom soup        1 C chopped onions
creole seasoning                                   1 C chopped green onion tops
1 C chopped green onion tops            1 C chopped celery
cooked rice                                              1/2 lb ground pork

Cook ground beef and pork until brown. Do not drain! Add onions, bell pepper, celery, jalapenos and seasonings. ( You can add a healthy splash of Louisiana Hot sauce or Tabasco and a splash of Worcestershire Sauce here too……… oueeeeee!!!! )  Add enough water to completely cover meat. Cook slowly for 30 minutes. Add soup, mix and add enough cooked rice to take up all of the liquid. Should be quite moist. Just before serving, stir in green onion tops.   ENJOY!!

 

7 Layer Bars – Bonnie
(Dr. Schulman’s Favorite!)

Ingredients:
1/2 C unsalted butter
1-1/2 C graham cracker crumbs
1 C semisweet chocolate chips
1 C butterscotch chips
1 C chopped walnuts
1 (14oz) can sweetened condensed milk
1-1/3 C shredded coconut

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
Place butter in 13×9 pan and melt in oven. Swirl to coat bottom and sides of pan.
Spread graham cracker crumbs evenly over bottom of pan. Layer chocolate chips, butterscotch chips & nuts over crumbs. Pour condensed milk over nuts. Sprinkle coconut over condensed milk.
Bake until edges are golden brown, about 25 minutes.  Let cool before cutting into bars.
